Lejla je diplomirala kemijsko inženjerstvo i tehnologiju na Kemijsko-tehnološkom fakultetu u Splitu , a potom je 2013. godine doktorirala Temeljne medicinske znanosti na Medicinskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Splitu. Odradila je pet poslijedoktorskih usavršavanja u nekoliko znanstvenih grupa na Medicinskom fakultetu u Zagrebu, Institutu Ruđer Bošković i na Institutu za antropologiju
